BUNDY LEAVES GL

Laura Bell Bundy, who has portrayed Marah Lewis, Reva and Josh's headstrong daughter on Guiding Light for the past two years, has left the role. Bundy taped her last appearance on Oct. 5. "The hardest part is leaving the people that I love so much," she shares. "I've learned so much [from them]; everyone is amazing."

The actress reveals that her departure was a mutual decision between herself and the show. "My contract was up... There are other things I want to be able to do, and I wouldn't be able to do those things if I was at Guiding Light," she explains. "They are going to recast, so the character will still exist, and they are probably going to put the character in a different direction."

Bundy, who has showcased her vocal gifts onscreen, will continue pursing a career in music as well as other projects. "I have a few films in the working and there's musical theater in New York City that I want to do," she shares. But Bundy's immediate plans include some well-deserved downtime. "I'm going home to Kentucky to see my family. Then between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I'm going to Europe, Madrid. My ex-boyfriend's father lives out there."

Bundy's last airdate is Oct. 29,2001.

She has been on Broadway in "Hairspray, "Wicked", & currently in "Leagally Blonde" & numererous tv appearance!!!! WTG, Laura!!!

Guiding Light has given Laura Bell Bundy the boot and decided to recast the role of Marah. Bundy's last tape date was October 5. At press time, GL wouldn't release her replacement's name.

Laura Bell Bundy (ex-Marah, GL) using her vocal stylings to liven up Le Bar Bat restaurant and lounge in New York City with her rendition of Duke Ellington's "Hit Me With a Hot Note and Watch Me Bounce." The actress joined her fellow Hairspray cast members at the Hair Cares benefit for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS. When not performing herself, the Southern belle joined the crowd and enthusiastically applauded for all of the other performers, no matter what style of music they chose to perform. "They were all great," she happily notes. "I'm actually [teaming up] with a few of the girls in the show to do another cabaret." And while Bundy's still working on her own original music. She's grown quite attached to all of her fellow hair hoppers. "We formed all these really good relationships [during previews in Seattle] and have still stayed connected since we've gotten to the theater," she says. "We've become a really tight-knit group."

Broadway's favorite musical is Tony's biggest winner! On Sunday night, HAIRSPRAY took home 8 Tony Awards, including BEST MUSICAL-more than any other show this year.

In addition to Best Musical, we garnered prizes
for the entire Turnblad family: Best Actor, Harvey
Fierstein; Best Actress, Marissa Jaret Winokur;
and Best Featured Actor, Dick Latessa.

And the honors didn't stop there. On the creative
team, director Jack O'Brien, songwriters Marc
Shaiman and Scott Wittman, book writers Mark
O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, and costume designer
William Ivey Long are all 2003 Tony winners, too.
This Tony sweep caps Broadway's awards-season,
following our win of TEN Drama Desk Awards, FIVE
Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the New York
Drama Critics Award for Best Musical.

And Tony night itself was a non-stop HAIRPSRAY
party: Between awards and acceptance-speeches, we
performed a knock-'em-dead rendition of "You Can't
Stop the Beat" for an audience of over 6,000 at
Radio City Music Hall-and an estimated 8 million
viewers at home.

Laura, the actress has also been giving Los Angeles a try. "I am developing a show for Paramount, sort of like Laverne & Shirley meets The Monkees meets Friends. [It's about] two small town girls from Kentucky, who come to the big city to pursue their dream of doing music and both of the girls feel like they don't have anything else left to lose -- and they come to the big city to pursue music -- but they suck," she laughed. Sounds great for The WB! "I know! Fox has seen it -- whoever wants it! It's all about taking risks and having ideas and following through with them." Following through with an idea sounds like what she is going through. But how did Bundy get to the point that she's able to pitch ideas to networks? "I think that what got me in the door with the idea was my connection I made through Hairspray and from having people see me in the show. That definitely makes a big difference. It's funny, because the work that I did at GL wasn't the work that I was sort of used to," shares Bundy. "I was always used to musical comedy and campy, catty sense of humor. It was an adjustment for me to be dramatic and emotional." Of course, once the actress left GL, she almost immediately booked the role in Hairspray. "Then I had to re-adjust to being [campy again] -- I had a little bit more depth after I left [GL] and then I had to bring that back in with comedic timing. Kim Zimmer [Reva] -- I don't think that anybody realizes the comedic genius that she has because you never see it [on GL]. She's definitely influenced me -- her and Robert [Newman; Josh] both in terms of acting. I am hoping that one day when I have to have a mom on the show, I can bring her on. She's hilarious. Nobody can see how hilarious she is."

Of course, Zimmer does have some sit-com experience. Among other things, she was in an episode of the hit series, Designing Women. Bundy responded, "One of the guys who wrote for [that] show is the writer for my show. [His name is] Robert Horn. He's fabulous. He came to see me in Hairspray and the next day I was flying out for 36 hours. It was my day off, so I left after a Sunday matinee to go to L.A. to see my boyfriend and at the time, we were just seeing each other and seeing how the relationship went, but I was on the plane and this guy said 'Oh my God, I just saw you in Hairspray. You were fabulous!' We got talking. We were on the plane, and we just hit it off. We kept in contact, and he sent me scripts and I ended up doing his pilot [which] didn't go, but while that pilot didn't get picked up, the young actress did enjoy her time on the west coast. "I spent a lot of time there after I left Hairspray. It's one of the reasons I left. The boyfriend is in Santa Barbara." So, are things still going well between them? She smiled. "Oh, yeah. I am emotionally stable, thank you." We don't doubt it for a minute.

Laura was Standby  for KRISTIN CHENOWETH (Glinda) in the Broadway show, Wicked! MELISSA BELL CHAIT (Ensemble; Glinda u/s) will remain as the Glinda understudy. Kristin Chenoweth has some pre-arranged dates off from the show.
